Woolfolk’s Fleck Bulky yarn is one of my new faves for designing cold-weather knits. It is a super bulky yarn that knits up into an incredibly soft and addictively squishy fabric. It has a cool rustic-yet-refined vibe, with its merino wool base and donegal wool flecks.
Simple Designs Showcase Fleck Bulky
Chunky Twist Cowl
I used Fleck Bulky in the cream/black colorway (color FKB1) for my Chunky Twist Cowl. The knitted fabric has good stitch definition and the donegal flecks give it dimension and depth. It is soft — not scratchy! — and very warm. It is cozy and squishy — the squishiness factor is off the charts!

Tenzen Sweater by the Woolfolk Design Team
I also used Fleck Bulky to knit the Tenzen Sweater, a simple yet stylish pullover that looks bulky but turns into a surprisingly lightweight fabric. Designed by the Woolfolk Design Team, it is versatile and can be customized in a lot of ways. I can see it in a more oversized silhouette; as a longer tunic length or a more cropped look; or with a dramatic fold-over turtleneck. Endless options!

Ethically and Sustainably Sourced Yarns
According to Woolfolk’s website, Fleck Bulky is made from 90% Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino wool and 10% donegal. Ovis 21 is a network of producers (small family farms) committed to regenerative farming and adhering to the Responsible Wool Standard for animal welfare practices.
The fiber we use, Ultimate Merino®, doesn’t happen by chance, but by the innovative efforts of farmers to produce the very best wool fiber while being land stewards of the Patagonian Grasslands. Woolfolk brings this exquisitely soft and lustrous fiber in handknitting yarns that preserves the unique attributes of this luxurious wool.
