I love traveling with a hand-knit scarf or cowl — especially one that is lightweight, colorful, versatile, and easy to carry. While my Chunky Twist Cowl is a handy piece for winter travel, the other three seasons of the year call for something a bit lighter. I think the Lacy Silk Scarf works well for these times!
The Lacy Silk Scarf is hand-knit with mulberry silk yarn imported from Japan. It is knitted in a lacy stitch pattern, so the yarn — saturated with vibrant color — transforms into a feather-light fabric with beautiful drape.
Silk is a wonderful natural fiber that has a lustrous sheen but is also strong and absorbent. It has always been considered a luxury fiber because it relies on a complex process of silkworms spinning cocoons made of silk strands that are then harvested, spooled, and spun into threads or yarns (Discovery).
For this scarf, I chose a unique openwork stitch pattern that creates natural “waves” at the hem and throughout the fabric to accentuate the feeling of lightness and movement.
Four Ways to Style the Lacy Silk Scarf
I love the versatility of this scarf, as it can be worn in at least four different ways. This version is made in a bright berry pink color but it can be made in other colors as well!
Wrapped
Wrap the hand-knit scarf around the shoulders to add a lacy layer. I love this look as it really shows off the lacy stitch pattern!
Looped
Loop the scarf around the neck to add warmth. Fold it in half and pull the ends through the loop, or wrap it around the neck for a snug fit.
Bow-Tied
Tie the scarf into an oversize bow to add whimsy to any outfit.
Draped
Drape the scarf around the neck for a classic look, especially under a jacket or lightweight coat.
